Conversation Skills 08 Sharing Stories and Experiences
Telling stories is a powerful form of communication. Recounting our experiences, and why they were significant, is an effective way to engage in conversation and to connect with the people around you. Our brains become more engaged when we listen to people telling their stories and experiences. Unlike sharing facts or statistics, stories appeal to our emotions. Storytelling makes conversations more personal and more interesting, and this helps build an emotional connection with others. In this course psychologists Eve Ash and Peter Quarry chat with people they have just met and use these real conversations to demonstrate how storytelling and sharing experiences can build emotional connections.
